We are at Digital Health Days to share our experience of eHealth system implementation in a whole District in Uganda

We are at Digital Health Days 2014 in Stockholm, 25-26 August. At last year's conference Shifo presented the potential of eHealth solutions in strengthening health service delivery in low-resource settings. At the time, Shifo was piloting a system that would help improve the care process and organisation, increase transparency and make better use of scarce resources within child health service delivery. Shortly after, between January-May this year, MyChild System was implemented in 16 health centres together with our local partners in the Mukono District, Uganda.

You can follow the impact of the first implementation in Mukono at www.shifo.org/impact. We are currently scaling up to different regions in Uganda with help of local partners and supporting organisations in Sweden and abroad. In collaboration with The Swedish Postcode Lottery we recently started implementation of MyChild System in an additional 30 health centres in the Busoga Region of Uganda.

This year, Rustam Nabiev, Director of Shifo, will share Shifo’s experience on one of the panels at Digital Health Days; Accessible Healthcare at 14:30-15:30 on Tuesday 26th. One of the most pressing issues when working to improve health service delivery in low-resource settings is the matter of sustainability. Shifo has found that there are three important components necessary for sustaining eHealth solutions and further developing health service delivery:

  1. The maintenance structure needs to be in place and be efficient. eHealth systems should work at all times
  2. Continuous capacity building needs to be built into the system. Health workers need to be given opportunities to develop in their work and change makers need to get a voice and support for their ideas.
  3. Continuous monitoring and evaluation is made possible through the new tools and needs to be integrated in the health sector for informed budget allocation, management decision, and policy development.
Shifo wants to reduce child mortality and improve global health by strengthening child health service delivery. By working together with local and global partners Shifo develops systems and structures that are sustainable in low-resource settings and hard to reach areas.

We are looking forward to two inspiring days and hope to see you there. Contact us through the conference website and twitter if you would like to book a meeting.

See you there!
