New approaches to global health challenges

STOCKHOLM - Swecare and the Swedish Health Initiatives  group (HIG) are hosting a seminar today to discuss innovative approaches to solving global health issues and the challenges faced in scaling these up. This forum is the first to be held as part of a new initiative created by a number of Swedish health companies, institutions and organisations, who are collaborating for new approaches to tackle major health challenges; through innovation, investment and action on a global scale.

In today's seminar, Binette Seck will present MyChild System during the morning session, and Director Rustam Nabiev will represent the practitioners view on the panel: Investment for Impact– Making it all work. The seminar has attracted over 120 participants from companies, institutions and organisations who are representing practitioners and funders. Shifo is a driving partner in the HIG group, which currently consist of Shifo Foundation, Solvatten, Peepoople, IKARE, ActionAid, representatives for Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Swecare.

Swecare and the HIG strongly believe that innovation is necessary to tackle the issues facing countries with scarce resources, and thus launched this seminar focused on what can be done to accelerate development and support roll-out of low-cost, innovative solutions in underserved areas, for example in Sub-Saharan Africa. We hope this will be the start of increased collaboration and support for innovations with potential to make a global impact.

Shifo Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Sweden. Our vision is a day when no child dies or suffers from preventable diseases. By working together with our partners we identify and close the real gaps in health service delivery, based on reliable, relevant and transparent data.

Shifo works to strengthen health systems and child health service delivery. We focus on child registration and follow up on children to ensure they receive all essential health services including vaccinations, nutrition, growth monitoring, and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV. We want to ensure that every child is registered and followed-up to receive life saving health services during their most vulnerable time, and ensure that every child grows up strong and healthy.

Shifo has developed MyChild system, which addresses some of the toughest challenges in reaching every child with preventive health services by enabling child registration, ensuring effective follow-up of children, and providing reliable and relevant information for improved decision-making.
