Niklas Zennström inducted into SUP46's Swedish Startup Hall of Fame when the startup hub celebrated its first year

Yesterday evening more than 500 people from the Stockholm startup community got together at Regeringsgatan 29 as SUP46 celebrated its first successful year. Niklas Zennström, founder of Skype, kicked off the birthday party and was also inducted into SUP46's Swedish Startup Hall of Fame.

The award SUP46’s Swedish Startup Hall of Fame commemorates people who through their actions and personality have made an exceptional contribution to the Swedish startup scene. Last year Daniel Ek, founder of Spotify, was appointed as the first ever inductee. Niklas Zennström was inducted with the following motivation:

“For his contribution to the world as a whole and the Swedish startup community in particular, Niklas Zennström is hereby inducted into the SUP46 Swedish Startup Hall of Fame. Like very few people before him, Niklas has demonstrated a unique combination of vision, wit, grit and execution to go from idea to a truly globally successful company. He is an inspiration and role model to all of us who believe that the impossible is actually possible and that one person can change the world.”

- It's a great honor for me to get this award. Sweden a fantastic country for start-ups and I therefore feel confident that the names of many successful entrepreneurs will be added to this prize, says Niklas Zennström.

Located in the heart of Stockholm, SUP46 gathers tomorrow's Swedish success stories within Internet, media, mobile and gaming with now over 40 startups as members. With the backing of Swedish and international top VCs and accelerator partners SUP46 gives its members a clear head start.

- Our member companies have attracted over 100 million SEK in aggregated capital and had an average growth of almost 70 % during our first year. We are also thrilled that SUP46 has become Stockholm's natural meeting place for the startup community, with over 25,000 visitors and 275 startup events this year, says Jessica Stark, CEO and co-founder of SUP46.

SUP46’s vision is that Stockholm becomes the #1 startup city in the world. To support Swedish entrepreneurs SUP46 aims to build a world class ecosystem, and just in time for the one-year anniversary the startup hub now expand its business.

- This is just the beginning of an amazing journey. We see a lot of applications every month, and many are queuing up to join in. We are now expanding our presence with 650 additional square meters for Swedish startup stars, says Jessica Stark.
