Grammy award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater celebrates the 10th anniversary of Swedish Jazz Celebration in Luleå

Between March 24 and 26 national and international jazz musicians gather in Luleå to participate in the celebration of the Swedish Jazz Celebration’s 10th anniversary. A festival with top names like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Atomic and Norwegian Mari Boine Group. Swedish Jazz Celebration continues, as in previous years, to reflect the parts of the Swedish jazz scene and what it looks like at the moment with an emphasis on the innovative music.Svensk Musik arranges Swedish Jazz Celebration for the tenth consecutive year, this year in cooperation with Norrbottensmusiken.

- At Svensk Musik we are very delighted to be working with Norrbottensmusiken again. Most recently we worked with them in 2007 in Luleå, which became the busiest in festival’s history. We very much look forward to meet all national and international artists and enthusiasts at the festival in March, says Odd Sneeggen, project manager for classical music and jazz at Svensk Musik.

One of the top names at the Swedish Jazz Celebration is Dee Dee Bridgewater who will offer a tribute to Billie Holiday, together with the Norrbotten Big Band and under direction of Håkan Broström.

- It is wonderful to be able to present one of the world's best jazz singers of all time. Her energy will likely cause the snow melts earlier than usual in Luleå this year, continues Odd Sneeggen.

At the festival the audience will also be able to listen to the talented singer and composer Josefine Cronholm, who will present a new work commissioned by the festival.

As the festival is a part of the EU-project Music on Top there will be artists and audience from all over Scandinavia. As in previous years the festival continues to reflect how the Swedish jazz scene looks like at the moment, with an emphasis on the innovative music. During the festival’s three days, different prizes will be awarded to various jazz artists.

Artists who will perform at the Swedish Jazz Celebration is, among others, Anders Jormin, Jacob Karlzon Trio, The Stoner, Josefine Cronholm, Dizzy Gillespie Symphony Session - Oulu Sinfonia, Marie Boine Group, The Thing, Television Pick Up, Marilyn Mazur, Sarah Riedel, Naoko Sakata Trio, Isabel Sörling Group, Rhododendron String Band, The Opposite, Fredrik Kronkvist Quartet, Cecilia Persson, Johan Berke Upstairs Five, Atomic, Andreas Gidlunds, Quartet with Jennifer Brown, David´s Angels, M A Numminen and Franska Trion.
