The successes of the pop scene in Gothenburg
2011-08-22 11:05Few cities in the world can match the success of the music scene Gothenburg has had in the past 15 years, both in Sweden and internationally. In recent years, music blogs and magazines alike frequently writes about artists and bands from Sweden’s second largest city. In our most recent essay on http://www.svenskmusik.org/ one of Swedens most high profile writers, Carl Reinholdtzon Belfrage, explains why Gothenburg is the Manchester of Northern Europe.
”I would dare to claim that there was nowhere in the world that was as interesting as Gothenburg, from a musical perspective, during those years. Nowhere else was pop music so clear, direct and uncompromising – and dare I say intellectual? – as in Gothenburg.”
