TEDxStockholmSalon on the 26th of November in The Royal Armoury

Now, on the 26th of November, in the enchanted dungeons of The Royal Armoury in Stockholm, TEDxStockholmSalon will hold their next event. Three very different speakers will touch different subjects on this two hour event in true TEDx-spirit, and on top of that there will be an artist.

TEDxStockholmSalon happens seven to eight times a year as a complement to the big annual TEDxStockholm. The Salon events are shaped in a smaller format, they last only for two hours and don't host more then 100 listeners. Three speakers share their inspiring stories complemented with the presentation of 2 TED talks covering a diverse range of topics and mingling sessions during the breaks.

Speakers Bio:

Gunnar Karlsson:
Gunnar is research leader at Communication Networks at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). He is a professor of teletraffic systems and director of the Laboratory for Communication Networks and has worked for IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, and for the Swedish Institute of Computer Science. His Ph.D is from Columbia University, New York. His research interests are mobile communication, in particular opportunistic wireless communication, and quality of service issues for the Internet. He is developing Podnet, a wireless file-sharing system that allows users to get access to and to share multimedia contents anywhere without being connected to a cellular network. People carrying a podnet enabled smartphone or tablet can get each other’s information when walking on a street or in a corridor, and when they sit close to others in public transportation, cafés and other places. Gunnar is currently interested also in online teaching and in the future of the university as an institution.

Walid Al-Saqaf:
Walid is a lecturer on online investigative journalism, global communication and web design in Örebro University in Sweden. In 2010 he became a TEDGlobal fellow and now he is part of the TED senior fellows. He is the founder of the YemenPortal.net site, a news aggregator that gathered information or news articles released on official news websites and through dissident and independent sites, and put them together to present a comprehensive view of what was happening in Yemen, allowing Yemenis barred from learning about problems, to be properly updated regard their country. When the Yemen government closed it down, Walid developed an encryption technology called “Alkasir”, a program that could not be simply blocked like any other web-based proxy. He decided to incorporate it into his Ph.D. work as a research tool to analyze and track censorship in the Middle East, as it has a built-in function to monitor websites in order to verify whether they have been unblocked. 

Alex Cureton-Griffiths:
Alex started Shanghai Networking News with the aim of helping people make valuable business contacts around Shanghai. Shanghai Networking News tells people what's on, what's worth going to and offers general networking know-how, especially helping westerners network with Chinese and vice-versa. Alex also trains people and companies in improving their networking skills through China Networker, covering everything from building up confidence to establishing lasting rapport in making the most of your network. After living most of his life in England and New Zealand, Alex spent several years working around the Greater China region, including the Gobi Desert, Taipei, Inner Mongolia and Shanghai. Before China Networker, Alex was an advertising salesman for the largest expat website in Shanghai, a corporate trainer and a product consultant for a corporate gift company. Alex is also the UK Project Lead for SpaceGAMBIT - a non-profit foundation endeavoring to help makerspaces and related organisations build and support mankind's future in the stars.

Spectacular and beautiful costumes and glittering carriages tell of fairytale coronations, weddings, christenings and burials at the court.
