TerraNet acquires a niche service program from Sony Mobile

On June 10 Terranet AB in Lund announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a niche service product program from Sony Mobile. TerraNet Lund, Sweden is a world leader of cloudless and offline based proximity aware solutions.

Proximal connectivity enables new paradigms and use cases for smartphones, tablets, PCs and IOT devices. Consumers can now automatically discover users and services, based on context and proximity and seamlessly exchange pictures, videos, and other media in a standardized and power efficient way, utilizing variety of wireless technologies including GPS (location), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and LTE-Direct.

One of Terranet’s key features is a proximal connectivity empowered app that enables off line sharing of video in full HD resolution and music between mobile devices. It runs without any of the mobile devices used being connected to a WI-FI hotspot, cellular network or any other access point.

Reselling of dataplans is another transformative use case based on proximal connectivity and the mesh topology. Typical use cases are coffee shops, campuses, buses, trains, airports, aircrafts. Sony Mobile and Terranet have closely collaborated to design a unique service for reselling of dataplans. The project and service is labelled GRIDD. The service will greatly increase the user experience for users acutely in need of data. For those who chronically never fully maximize its excessive data capacity, which otherwise becomes obsolete, if not used, they will also find an financial upside of selling its excess capacity to a a user nearby.

In reality GRIDD creates a secondary collaborative market where users themselves within GRIDD can choose to purchase and sell excessive data capacity in Gigabytes between each other.
