The Team Formula - A Business Book with a Difference. Released 4 March 2013

This is a business book told in a story format for leaders; a Leadership Tale. It takes place in the world of international business where, as a result of an acquisition, two companies merge creating a team: A team struggling with conflicts and dishonesty, but also showing glimpses of loyalty and hope. Stephen, the team's leader, is challenged to get them working together. In these times of change and economic downturn, it's more important than ever that he gets it right. Follow Stephen and his team on their journey through the thorny maze that all teams travel through.

This is a quick, must-read for leaders and team members in any organisation. The book offers a fun, engaging and informative experience, providing opportunities for reflection as well as valuable ideas that can be implemented immediately. The story tempts the reader, to look at him/herself and ask the questions: What choices am I making? How does this apply to me and my team? What am I doing to make this team work? The reader can easily relate to the characters and real-life situations. Everyone will recognise a part of themselves, as well as their colleagues, so you want to know what's going to happen next: It's a page-turner.

Above all, this is a book about going from intellectual understanding to a change in behaviour for everyone on the team.

SOME READERS' REVIEWS

As a Senior Finance Executive, I wish I had Mandy and Elizabet's insights when I started my career. They both know how to get at the differences between managing people vs. leading people. Through their unique story telling method, I found myself re-living many situations with teams that I was responsible for. The issues they bring out are real and happen to all of us.
This book gets at the heart of understanding the true meaning of leadership - working with and through others to achieve results.
Knowing how to lead and influence teams is no longer a "nice to have". With today's fast changing global workforce and thin margin of error with your customers, educating your people leaders on how to lead their teams in a powerful way is a "must have". The Team Formula is a must-read for those with leadership responsibility that want to sustain peak performance and deliver impactful results for their company.

This is the first leadership book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, it was one of those books that you just don’t want to put down. The fact that it was written in the form of a story made it extremely relevant, and in my opinion depicted the real challenges that leaders face in their careers.

The Team Formula is applicable to leaders of any level, it talks to some of the most logical, yet most difficult concepts of leadership, it provides a great formula for ensuring that you are always aware of these concepts, and more importantly that you are consciously addressing them as part of your team culture.

This book was very relevant to me having inherited a brand new team 10 months ago, it allowed me to reflect on the things I did, and the approach that I took. I would have found the book equally as relevant if I was leading an established team, as often you forget about the basics and most fundamental attributes of building and driving great teams.

On a personal note, I had the privilege of participating in a Team Climate Survey with you, I can honestly say that it was one of the best leadership activities that I have attended, it was extremely relevant and realistic in the way that it was conducted, and it had a very tangible and very encouraging outcome – I would recommend it to any leader.

Overall I can confidently say that this was the best leadership book that I have read, and I will absolutely recommend it to any leader.
