Hantaviruses are found practically all over the world and cause hemorrhagic fevers in man. Each year about 150,000 people are hospitalized in these zoonotic infections which can be of two types: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), depending on the infecting virus.
