Merging in the food field — Oy FoodFiles Ltd and KPL Good Food Practice AB merges and becomes the Nordic leader in the research field of Functional Food

The merging companies have been partners for a few years and have conducted clinical trials within nutrition together. Both companies are well known for their experience and knowledge within nutrition and clinical trials. Oy FoodFiles Ltd is further specialized towards regulatory affairs while KPL Good Food Practice AB has developed an IT support system for recruiting and conducting clinical trials of nutrition. More than 6 000 subjects from the Nordic countries have shown an interest to participate in the studies conducted by the companies. Altogether, the new company has experience from conducting more than 170 clinical trials within nutrition and has written more than 70 regulatory dossiers.

“I really believe that this merging, by combining the expertise in both companies, will offer many advantages for our present and future customers,” says Essi Sarkkinen COO at FoodFiles. “My belief is based on the fact that we have worked together earlier in common projects and we both share the view that the focus on customer needs is the key to success.”

Consumers’ interest in food and health has increased dramatically during the last decade. The EU Health and Nutrition Claims Regulation and together with forthcoming legislation drives R&D within the food companies. By starting every development project with writing a regulatory and clinical plan the chances for compliance with the regulatory framework increases.

“The new company is conducting clinical trials in the Nordic countries today, but our IT-system and experience support further growth by partnership in the rest of Europe,” says Johan Olsson CEO at FoodFiles AB. “We will search for new partners during the coming years to be able to conduct clinical trials with the best prerequisites regarding for example study populations or diet restrictions for each study."

The newly established FoodFiles AB is a food and nutrition focused contract research organization. The company is the strongest player in Scandinavia and among the Top 5 in Europe with a turnover of 2,5 M€.

FoodFiles AB’s vision is to be the health industries preferred service provider in R&D support. The business concept is to help both food- and pharma companies shorten their product development times using FoodFiles AB unique expertise within nutrition, clinical trials and regulatory affairs. The company will now be able to offer broader customer solutions, qualified substantiation and smooth entry to various regulatory approvals and thereby create added value for new and existing customers.
