VR glasses increase knowledge of doping controls

During the Biathlon world cup in Östersund Swedish Anti-Doping will perform doping controls and inform the public about the anti-doping work. With the help of VR-glasses, visitors can experience how a doping control works in reality.

In collaboration with the Swedish Biathlon Association and the IBU, the International Biathlon Union, Swedish Antidoping is in Östersund during the World Cup on 7 to 17 March. On behalf of the IBU, it is Swedish Anti-doping that performs the doping controls during the World Cup.

The reigning Olympic gold medalist, Sebastian Samuelsson, has recently become a strong voice for a doping-free sport and is also a profile for the Swedish anti-doping work. Sebastian Samuelsson profiles the tent in the form of rollups and nice giveaways (ice scrapers) and during the championship week he will convey important messages in the Swedish Antidoping's Facebook channel.

– An important part of Svensk Antidoping's activities is to prevent doping through information and education to increases knowledge about anti-doping. Our efforts during the World Championships in Östersund are a good example of how we do this in collaboration with sports organizations. The preventive activity is also a requirement in the World Anti-Doping Code. The requirement in this area is also to be clarified in the new Code which comes into force in 2021, something Swedish Antidoping welcomes ”, says Christine Helle, head of Swedish Anti-Doping.

For the visitors during the World Championships in Östersund, the VR experience of a doping control is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge of how things are done in reality. The application is made by Australia's National Anti-Doping Organization. You can meet us at Swedish Anti-doping near the ticket offices two hours before the start of the competition and up to the start. Take the opportunity to test your knowledge in an anti-doping quiz or meet Vasalopp winner Britta Johansson Norgren and Martina Perendi, who are the anti-doping coordinator in IBU. In addition, Joanna Sjöö, a trained doping control officer, will talk about Swedish Antidoping's search dog activities and the doping search dog Molly.
