The French corrosion laboratory CORREX has been acquired by the Institut de la Corrosion as of July 1st 2009. CORREX is a well renowned corrosion laboratory in Fraisses, France with special expertise in corrosion and corrosion fatigue under severe conditions, such as corrosion attack by hydrogen disulfide (H2S) in oil & gas production. Institut de la Corrosion is a leading corrosion research institute in Brest, France that conducts corrosion research and testing, including marine and off-shore environments. Institut de la Corrosion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Swerea KIMAB, a major European research institute in the field of metallic materials, corrosion and corrosion protection.
"The competence in CORREX regarding corrosion testing for the oil & gas and energy sectors is complementary to our existing offer and the acquisition will allow us to offer a broader research program and to utilize synergies between the two companies" says Dominique Thierry, president of Institut de la Corrosion. "It will strengthen CORREX to become part of a larger corrosion team that can support our continued growth" adds Claude Duret-Thual, president of CORREX. "I look forward staying on as president of CORREX and to work with the scientists at Institut de la Corrosion and Swerea KIMAB. We see many opportunities to expand and to widen our offer, including more contract research projects with our clients."
"With the acquisition of CORREX we will have a team of more than 70 scientists and technicians specializing in corrosion and corrosion protection" says Staffan Söderberg, president of Swerea KIMAB. "The acquisition is in line with our strategy to expand in the energy and oil & gas sectors and we are very happy to welcome the CORREX team into the group."
Swerea KIMAB is a subsidiary of Swerea, a company owned by a number of industrial associations and by the Swedish state through RISE Holding AB. The Swerea group consists of five industrial research institutes in material and production technology with 450 employees and a turnover of around 50 M€. "Within Swerea we strive for a leadership position in our core competence areas and the addition of CORREX will further strengthen our leading position in corrosion research and testing" summarizes Tomas Thorvaldsson, president of Swerea.
