New Confidence

2013-06-14 12:06 Project Playground Tembizo attended a good boarding school, was the best hockey player in his team and also the captain – until his father was shot and his mother got sick and died. Life drastically changed for Tembizo when he lost his parents. He dropped out of school, lost all interest in his studies, started to bully other kids and unfortunately, joined gangsters and started using drugs and smoke tic.

When first meeting Frida and Sofia last year we were so inspired and couldn't wait to come to Langa and visit. After spending a day with with Play on Wheels a couple of weeks back we fell completely in love with the participants and the staff.

A True Fighter

2013-06-05 10:54 Project Playground Zamburo, a 15 year old boy living with his aunts and cousins have faced many challenges and rough times despite his young age. When he was 12 years old he looked after his mother who had HIV and was sick in AIDS, a sad but usual situation in the townships of South Africa. Zamburo had to feed her, bath her and give her medication while the aunts teased him for having a dying mom.

SOCCER TOURNAMENT 2013

2013-04-10 14:54 Project Playground On the 23rd and 24th of March, Project Playground held our second annual soccer tournament in Langa. Following the human rights day which was celebrated a few days prior, the tournament was a celebration of diversity and integration. Participating teams came from various places in Western Cape, 20 in total, all fighting fair and hard for the stunning prizes contributed by Adidas.

My mother was a single parent who had seven children. I am the sixth child. My mother passed away when I was 10 years old and left us with our grandmother who passed away two months later."

Focusing on social studies and development studies, their ending project was perfect to take place at Project Playground. Only one member of the family works and the mother is getting disability grant. The foster care grant was stopped since Thando stopped attending school.
