A baby is carried in a crowd of hundreds of children awaiting their turn to step into the 'Learn and Play' mobile van that has just arrived in the squatter community of Parola, in Manila, the capital. The community does not have a day-care programme, and the vehicle provides their only opportunity for formal learning. Children are encouraged to go inside the van to play with colourful toys and learning tools. They also read books and sing and dance outside of the vehicle. UNICEF helped provide and equip the vehicle.
Children colour at a child-friendly space, built by UNICEF in a predominantly Muslim displacement camp on the grounds of the military airport in Bangui, the capital. The NGO International Rescue Committee works with local staff and volunteers, offering play and some schooling at the centre.
