    Simon Larsson with impressive recovery

Ingolstadt/Nürburgring, May 28, 2016 – A successful race weekend for Simon Larsson: the 19- year-old Swede made major strides in round two of the Audi Sport TT Cup season and made up numerous positions in both races.

“It was clear that I was in for a difficult weekend because I had no previous experience at the Nürburgring whatsoever,” said Larsson. In addition, the Swede was struggling with clutch issues in qualifying, which prevented a better grid position.

“I had a poor start in race one. But I made up ground further into the race. With an overtaking maneuver on the last lap I was at least able to clinch twelfth place. After the turbulent start in the second race, I suddenly found myself in the last position. That I’ve still scored my best result of the season in eleventh place gives me a lot of self-confidence for the next races."

At the front of the field, Dennis Marschall and Sheldon van der Linde dominated the action at the Nürburgring. Marschall celebrated an uncontested lights-to-flag victory in race one. The second race on the Grand Prix circuit of the tradition-steeped track was marked by rookie van der Linde in every respect. The double winner in the Hockenheim season opener started from pole position and, following a fierce but always fair duel with Marschall, went on to cross the finish line as the winner. As a result, the 17-year-old rookie in the Audi one-make cup has won an amazing three in four rounds of the season.

At the Nürburgring, the Audi Sport TT Cup took place for the first time as part of the supporting program of the 24-hour race. Van der Linde leaves the Eifel as the overall leader with a score of 87 points.

Larsson, with 28 points, is in twelfth place. Next on the calendar will be Audi’s home round at the Norisring. The third in a total of seven rounds will be held from June 24 to 26.
