SIFE-KTH

CareNet, a collaborative project among several prestigious academic institutions and healthcare industry players, has made substantial progress on its advanced research infrastructure during the past four months. The infrastructure has been extended straight into the patient’s home, to enable the secure delivery of high quality eHealth services. On January 11th 2012, CareNet representatives will demonstrate the engineering that makes this innovation possible at the Royal Institute of Technology in Kista. This includes a prototype of an advanced home gateway, which enables robust medical connectivity. Furthermore, prototypes of eHealth services such as High Definition Video Conferencing and remote sensor monitoring will be demonstrated.

In this phase of the CareNet research, the most important objective is to make patients feel safe in an at-home medical care scenario. This is achieved through remote sensor monitoring combined with direct contact to medical specialists via video over the web if needed.

The goal of the CareNet initiative is to establish a state-of the art research infrastructure for eHealth in the Stockholm region. Further activities include developing eHealth services to be offered over this infrastructure, such as telemedicine services. The current CareNet research infrastructure spans over optical fiber between the Royal Institute of Technology in Kista and the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. It also extends straight into the patients home via a recently developed virtual network. CareNet is staffed by master degree students and professional researchers from the Royal Institute of Technology [KTH] and other partner institutions.

Event details: January 11th 2012 10:00-14:00. KTH Kista, 5th floor.
