Globe Award 2011 – Leading Sustainability Awards

Four outstanding companies nominated for the Globe Sustainability Reporting Award 2011

STOCKHOLM, March 4th, 2011 − Four companies have been selected as candidates for the Globe Award Sustainability Reporting Award 2011. The Reporting Award − one of four categories of the Globe Award 2011 − aims at stimulating and rewarding enterprises and companies which play an active role in promoting and increasing sustainability in the social and economic field in the world.

Globe Award is presented for the fifth consecutive year. The aim is to discover and encourage researchers, innovators, cities and companies outstanding in sustainable development. Globe Award’s mission is to highlight and acknowledge particular cases and initiatives within the sustainability area.

The nominated companies are:

  • Indra, Spain
  • SCA - Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, Sweden
  • Teck Resources Limited, Canada
  • Vancity - Vancouver City Saving Credit Union, Canada

The jury consists of highly experienced and internationally recognized experts from different countries. Chairman of the jury group for Globe Award’s Sustainability Reporting Award is Paul Druckman, Chairman Executive Board of The Prince's Accounting for Sustainability Project.

“Once again this year we received entries from across the world which reiterates the breadth of the Globe Awards. The number of entries was limited but we enjoyed reading the submissions and the reports. Congratulations to all those that entered and for the work that has been done, it is evident that this reporting area is gaining insight. However we are a long way from the vision of an integrated report and we look forward to developments next year based around the work of the International Integrated Reporting Committee.”, says Paul Druckman, Chairman of the jury group.

Applications have been evaluated according to listed criteria. Reported information must be determined by its importance to the company’s strategy and the extent to which it impacts on key business activities. The impact of sustainability trends on the business in the short, medium and longer term are assessed and explained. Reports should provide data that is consistent, relevant and comparable. This will be marked based on the data being complete (not just carbon); normalised; comprehensive; and monetized. Reporting is integrated into mainstream annual reporting.

For a more detailed description of the criteria for the Globe Sustainability Reporting Award 2011, please see: http://globeaward.org/sustainability_reporting_2011.

The winner will be announced the 28th of March.

The Globe Award has decided to take further environmentally-friendly steps and fullfill its mission to contribute to sustainable development by reducing its carbon footprint. We truly belive that small actions do make a difference. It is our obligation for promoting sustainability not only in theory, but, also, in practise. Therefore the prize ceremony will be held virtually at the Globe Forum sustainability conference in Stockholm on May 11th.

The winner and the jury will present the winning projects. There will be an online chat after the prize ceremony so everyone can ask questions to the laureates.
