STOCKHOLM, JUNE 3, 2009 - In tough competition with five prominent nominees, Novo Nordisk won the Globe Sustainability Reporting Award 2009. The award was presented to Novo Nordisk's Director of Corporate Accountability, Susan Blesener, by H.R.H Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, at a ceremony in the Winter Garden of Grand Hotel in Stockholm on June 3rd.

The goal of the Globe Award for Sustainability Reporting, this year presented for the first time, is to discover and encourage companies prominent in sustainability reporting. The jury group for the Sustainability Reporting Award was chaired by Paul Druckman, Chairman of Executive Board of HRH The Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability Project, based the UK. Other members of the jury were Olivier Bouellis-Taft, CEO Federation of European Accountants, Brussels, Belgium and Peter Wong, Member of the Board of Directors Global Reporting, Hong Kong; Brian Ballou & Dan Heitger, Professors and Co-Directors, Center for Business Excellence Farmer School of Business, Miami University, USA and Erik Mather, Managing Director, Regnan - Governance Research and Engagement, Australia.

The jury's motivation:

"Based on a collective assessment of the criteria, Novo Nordisk is at a highly advanced stage in integrating its sustainability activities into its reporting model. It demonstrates the long-term financial benefits to all stakeholders of the organisations, including shareholders, of its sustainability activities".

"We are pleased to receive this acknowledgement from the Globe Forum which believes, as Novo Nordisk does, that sustainability is at the heart of what makes companies successful," says Susan Blesener, Director of Corporate Accountability, Novo Nordisk.

"We were impressed with both the strength and the international spread of the entries. Integration of sustainability into business strategy was highlighted as the main criteria and many companies provided real evidence of the move to make this core to their DNA. It was a little disappointing that comparability across industry sectors was missing from most of the reports", says Paul Druckman, Chairman of the Jury for the Globe Sustainability Reporting Award.

Globe Award's mission is to highlight and reward good cases and initiatives. A total of four jury groups, each with highly experienced and internationally recognized experts, has ensured that the most innovative and visionary innovators, scientists, cities and companies are highlighted. The Globe Award juries have been chaired by Lars-Olle Larsson, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Sweden.
