Similar to TV-series like CSI, there are break-ins and other failures in our IT-systems. And like in the TV-shows, traces, known as logs, are left behind in systems and on the internet. LogServer 3.0 from op5 can manage these logs, making IT systems traceable. They can deliver detailed reports on hotspots in the network and in specific systems and enable companies to manage new, tough legislations like SOX.

Logs - the DNA of IT systems, now searchable for all!

Similar to TV-series like CSI there are break-ins and other failures in IT systems. And like TV-shows, clues and traces, known as logs, are left behind. If you keep tabs on your logs, crime prevention is easy, whether it is a break-in or a system failure. And like in the real world, the best crime is that which never happens. LogServer 3.0 from op5, an open source management company, can collect and manage all of these logs making IT systems traceable. It can deliver detailed reports on hotspots in the network and in specific systems, and enable companies to manage new, tough legislations like SOX. LogServer 3.0, a new version of the product LogServer, also contains a new user interface and new security features including smart buffering and encryption of sensitive log data.

Why do I need a LogServer?

The majority of IT investments today concern collaboration and integration of different IT systems. This may cause unexpected errors to occur in both hardware and applications, and can in the worst case scenario cause a complete system or service to shut down. Structured and simple management of logs is one of the fastest and best ways to find out what went wrong, as logs contain detailed reports from software and hardware about a certain problem. Furthermore, a LogServer saves time in terms of troubleshooting and can create necessary reports to follow up on Service Level Agreements.

With op5 LogServer 3.0, a company can centrally, securely and quickly manage all logs in the IT system by accessing one interface in one solution. For audits, businesses can search logs and create reports for different systems and applications. This means that a business can ensure that they are compliant with new legislation and meanwhile retain a good overview of internal systems, says Jan Josephson, head of business development at op5.

Why do I need to stay compliant - and with what?

Compliance is a new reality for today's businesses and their IT departments. Legislation for historical data traceability has been enacted in several countries around the world, the most famous being the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, a US federal law describing specific mandates and requirements for financial reporting in public companies, which was passed in response to a number of corporate scandals. A common theme for SOX-legislation is that it requires public companies to maintain a certain level of internal control; this includes control over their internal IT systems. To maintain the set level of control, businesses need tools to monitor their systems, and these tools must also be able to give a historic overview of the activities that have taken place in the systems. Companies that manage different types of payment cards are also under increased pressure from the PCI, Payment Card Industry, an industry association managing security standards for the payment card industry, to monitor and trace IT systems used for payment card transactions.
