A “Swedish-Italian Workshop on Nanoscience and Medical Technology” will be held in Stockholm on September 29-30. The workshop will focus on different nanotechnologies applied to health care, from biosensors to tissue engineering and biomaterials.

Among invited speakers, Paolo Macchiarini from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm will talk about his recent first successful transplantation of a synthetic tissue engineered windpipe. Mats Johnsson, from the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research, will talk about Swedish government policy for research and possible funding opportunities in this field, especially in view of coming EU-program F7 calls.

Major experts from universities and research institutes in Italy and Sweden will present the most recent findings in this field. Biomedical companies from both countries will also contribute with their perspectives about the relevance of nanotechnology in future health care solutions.

The workshop will take place at the YKI – Institute for Surface Chemistry conference hall, Drottning Kristinas väg 45, and it is organized by the Embassy of Italy in Sweden together with YKI, Institute for Surface Chemistry.
