Dr Abuelaish worked for many years in an Israeli hospital, becoming a living symbol of the possibilities of Israeli-Palestinian peace. During the 2008–2009 Israeli military

assault onGaza, he sought to give Israelis an alternative view on the conflict through live broadcasts from his home in the Jabalia refugee camp. Izzeldin Abuelaish has received numerous awards for his work for peace. His 2010 book “I shall not hate: A Gaza Doctor´s Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity” became an international bestseller and has been translated into 15 languages. In 2010 Dr Abuelaish founded Daughters for Life, providing academic scholarships to young Middle Eastern women.
