Ask the Expert editorial in Bioprocess International

Josefina Nilsson, head of Vironova EM services, is featured in the editorial article in the June issue of Bioprocess International where she describes how electron microscopy and image analysis performed by Vironova provide all the structural information needed for effective and high-quality research, development and manufacturing of gene and drug delivery systems. Bioprocess International is a monthly, controlled-circulation magazine devoted to the development, scale-up, and manufacture of biotherapeutics, vaccines and biodiagnostics. This article is based on a recent presentation in their Ask the Expert program where Josefina explained how structural characterization on specifically viral vectors and liposomes provide important insights into the quality of development and manufacturing practices. Important characteristics include morphology, integrity, sample purity, and the ratio between filled and empty particles.
