Guinness-infused Bak Kwa and live street performance pack a festive punch this Chinese New Year

Press Release  •  Dec 29, 2011 16:34 SGT

Guinness enters the homes of Bak Kwa lovers via cooking showcases and takes to the street with live a cappella performances of popular Chinese New Year tunes

Guinness embraces being the perfect guest and perfect host this Lunar New Year by giving fans the unique opportunity to learn how to make their own premium Guinness-infused Bak Kwa through special demonstrations and a masterclass.

Meanwhile, those in Chinatown purchasing their festive goodies or just soaking up the vibrant festive atmosphere will be treated to live performances by Singapore‟s up-and-coming Chinese singers from the on-going Guinness Live initiative.

“For 143 years in Singapore, Guinness has been about coming together to produce bold experiences. This Lunar New Year, we‟re proud to add a Guinness twist and pump up the festivities by showing Singaporeans how to make Guinness-infused Bak Kwa at home and also by showcasing a modern remixed medley of popular festive tunes performed by talented young, aspiring singers adding more festive cheer into festive, if you would,” said Mr. Paul Bisson, Marketing Manager of Guinness, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS).

Members of the public will get a chance to learn how to make their own Guinness-infused Bak Kwa on Saturday 7 January at TANGS Vivocity‟s demonstration kitchen on Level 2. At 2pm and 5pm, Chef John See will be conducting a 45-minute cooking demonstration, showcasing how to create perfectly grilled and tender pork infused with the deep, rich flavour that Guinness stout is known and loved for the world over. Fans will also be able to take home the recipe of a specially-created Guinness marinade, which will serve as a guide as they create their own Guinness-infused Bak Kwa at home for their guests.

Those who would like a longer and more comprehensive session can sign up for a two and a half hour hands-on masterclass on Sunday 8 January. To be held at 2pm at Kitchen Culture, Thye Hong Centre, along Leng Kee Road, this class will allow a select group of fans to gain hands-on experience in preparing and grilling their Guinness-infused Bak Kwa to smoky-sweet perfection. For enquiries or to register for a seat at this masterclass, please email Lay Peng at laypeng@aka-asia.com.

To add to the bustle and excitement of the Lunar New Year festivities, Guinness will also be entertaining shoppers and diners in Chinatown with a special one-night-only recital along Pagoda Street on Saturday 21 January between 7pm 8pm. The singers, who are currently performing at some of Singapore‟s most popular clubs as part of the Guinness Live initiative, will sing - in a capella - a modern medley of popular Chinese New Year tunes remixed by acclaimed music producer Eric Ng.

Guinness Live is a talent programme and music event series created to support the local Chinese music scene and provide consumers with quality „live‟ entertainment. The artistes are being mentored by well-known music veterans William Scorpion, Fatt Zhai and Jason Chung, and are performing at Shanghai Dolly, Dragonfly and Firefly every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively at 10pm until 1 March 2012.
