Seven Ways to 'Pet Proof' Your Flooring?

We love our pets, just by seeing them will make our day. As responsible home and pet owners, not only you have to take care of your pets, you also need make sure that your home is a great environment for both you and your pets to roam around, making your home "pet proof" should also be your responsibility too.

Below are the seven ways which will help you to pet proof your house floor:

1. Dry Pets Body's to Avoid BO

Keep your pets body dry at all times. Wet bodies that is left un-dry may cause germs and body odour on the pets. Vice versa, when you have carpet tiles, stained, unclean and wet carpet will leave a very strong odour in the house; in which such odour may get to the pet's body.  

2. Wipe all fours 

When you bring your pets out, dirt, sand particles and mud stains may get on to their paws; Sand particles may have the tendency to scratch your flooring, so you got to clean and make sure your pets' paws are free from the dirt and the stains before you let them run about in the home. 

3. Give them something to bite

Young pets especially during their teething stage, may tend to chew  and bit almost every furniture in your home especially your wooden flooring, your chair and table legs, cables, sofa fabrics and even your stairs; this is what we call, "The Shark Attack". In order to prevent your pets from "punishing" your flooring, you can give them something to bite and chew. Talk to any pet shop vendor, they would usually introduce you pet toys for the pet to chew and concentrate on.

4. Wear Cute Little Shoes

Sharp nails of pets may cause scratches to your dearest floor especially if your pets are highly "acrobatic" who like to flex their paws on the floor; on in case, your pets may also think that they could scratch and dig a hole onto the floor in order to hide their favorite cookie. One way to pet proof such problem, is you could wear those small vinyl shoes on their four legs. Other than its ability to avoid scratches on the flooring, it also gives your pet a "cutesy" image.

5. Toilet Discipline

You could toilet-train or newspaper-train your pets. Especially when you see that they always want to "release" at the same old spot; seeing this, you have to discipline your pets, show them who is the master of the house. If the above two methods are not useful, you could also try to bring your pets outside at least once a day for them to "let go" of their water.

6.Use Good Quality Flooring

Good quality flooring, whether they are laminate flooring, high end resilient flooring or engineered wood flooring, will usually have relatively scratch resistance, stain resistance and also water resistance. During shopping, you should check with your local flooring to ask for more of such details.

Have a Big Heart

There are stories where some pets owners, after seeing problems caused by their pets such as peeing and scratches, easily give up or abandon them just like that. It is quite sad to see these things from happening. 

Pets owners need to have a big heart, they should not give up their pets just because of these problems. Problems are not forever, they can be resolved with the right strategy and options such as dog training.
