The Flooring History of Tarkett

Back in 130 years ago, Tarkett is only a small and humble flooring company in Sweden. Since its inception, Tarkett flooring concept has been growing towards creating a greener environment. Hence, for more than half a century, they have been very active in developing new flooring inventions such as laminate flooring, vinyl flooring as well as engineered timber with the aim to save the forests.

In 1942, with the intention to save more trees from being cut down, Tarkett group invented a 3 layered hardwood floor board. This then formed the foundation of engineered wood flooring. However, engineered wood flooring only became popular 20 years later.

In 1952, as the demand for wood flooring increased, the limited timber supply and manpower resources has make prices of wood flooring to increase tremendously. Tarkett group began to see a need to produce an alternative flooring product to curb the extravagant wood prices back then. On the other hand, to save many trees from cutting down to meet the growing demand. Tarkett thus invented, the world's first vinyl flooring.

The advent of vinyl flooring introduced by the already established Tarkett group, has invited a lot of positive demands from consumers worldwide. Many people began to switch to vinyl floors because it is more durable and easy to maintain compare to wood. Furthermore, many families and companies are able to afford the cost efficient vinyl floors. Flooring manufacturers from all over the world began to embrace vinyl flooring concept and introduced it to their consumers. Tarkett has thus created a positive culture for people to accept vinyl flooring in a short matter of time.

During the 70s, a vinegar store in a Swedish small town, has started the first laminated wood flooring. And, this has taken the market by storm. Many flooring suppliers began to develop many versions of laminate flooring that is first invented by Pergo.

Tarkett, although is not the inventor of laminated floors, also begins to be involved in the manufacturing of laminate floors. With its long-standing focus on building eco & healthy floors, Tarkett group started to invest on R&D and come out with laminate flooring products which are designed to be Eco friendly.

All Tarkett laminate floors has been rated E1 grading for formaldehyde emission, which make them safer and healthier to install in areas where there are children such as schools and child care centers. Today, as more & more people are concerning about the well being of their next generation, many consumers begin to install environmentally laminate floors instead. Although Tarkett started late, it stills stand as a very strong laminate flooring brand today because of its focus on creating Eco-friendly and healthy floors.

Just like iPhones which started more than 20 years after the invention of the world's first mobile phone, still is the best today.

Today, Tarkett has grown from a small Swedish company into a flooring metropolis with 9000 employees worldwide; and Tarkett has been constantly improving their flooring products in order to build a more sustainable environment.
