Singaporeans’ bathroom habits revealed in Kleenex® survey

A study by Kleenex® in Singapore has revealed some surprising findings on bathroom habits and hygiene practices, a topic that was recently discussed on Channel News Asia’s First Look Asia morning show.

Among these were the findings that 5% of people in Singapore do not wipe after a bowel movement, and that 1 in 4 people do not wash their hands with soap or any other disinfectant after using the bathroom.

The Kleenex Singaporean Bathroom Habits survey, which polled some 400 men and women aged 18–65 years on their personal bathroom and hygiene habits, also revealed that while 8 out of 10 claim to wipe themselves completely clean, more than half (52%) do not practise a ‘dry and wet’ approach of using both dry toilet tissues with moist toilet tissues or water to rinse themselves off. Alarmingly, almost a third of those surveyed (29%) stated that they wiped ‘back-to-front’, instead of the more appropriate ‘front-to-back’ direction.

The study also reflected the city state’s obsession with smartphones, even when they were in the bathroom. 3 in 4 smartphone users in Singapore use their mobile phones whilst having a bowel movement. While this may not come as a surprise, only 2% of these people sanitise their phones after use in the toilet, even though mobile phones are prime breeding grounds and carriers for germs and bacteria both in and out of the toilet.

Leading the way to champion a higher standard of clean in Singapore, Kleenex® has introduced a simple yet convenient routine. The Kleenex® Clean Routine, which combines a ‘Dry + Wet’ approach, can be integrated seamlessly into current wiping routines with the introduction of Kleenex® Ultra Soft Moist Toilet Tissues to complement the use of dry toilet tissues.

Safe to flush and hypoallergenic, the Kleenex® Ultra Soft Moist Toilet Tissue is gentle and delicate on the skin and cleans two times better* than just using dry toilet tissue, leaving 8 in 10 people feeling cleaner and fresher after use.
