Press release   •   Dec 04, 2012 14:40 +08

Mr Thio Gim Hock, Group Managing Director of OUE with kids at the Stars of Christmas kick off

‘Stars of Christmas,’ an annual community project by Mandarin Orchard Singapore and parent company Overseas Union Enterprise (SGX-ST: “OUE”), today kicks off with the ceremonial hanging of Christmas stars at the hotel lobby with beneficiaries of various children’s aid societies, to include Club Rainbow, VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer, and Touch Community Services.

Leading the ceremony was OUE Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director Mr Thio Gim Hock, together with representatives from OUE, Mandarin Orchard Singapore, and Meritus Hotels & Resorts.

The ‘Stars of Christmas’ programme is aimed at raising funds and soliciting Christmas presents for children who are underprivileged or suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Stars bearing the name, age, and gender of each beneficiary adorn the Christmas tree at the main lobby of Mandarin Orchard. Hotel guests, visitors, and employees take part by picking the stars and buying corresponding presents that are then placed under the tree. Closer to Christmas Day, the children can look forward to receiving their presents.

On 14th December 2012, children from Club Rainbow along with their siblings, parents, and caregivers, are guests of honour at a luncheon being hosted by OUE Executive Chairman, Dr Stephen Riady. Following a scrumptious feast prepared by Mandarin Orchard’s master chefs, sure to be the highlight is a visit from Santa and his helpers who will be giving out presents to one and all.

This year’s ‘Stars of Christmas’ culminates in a ‘Toy Run’ on 15th December 2012, with the generous support of partners including Harley-Davidson of Singapore, Harley Owners Group Singapore Chapter, Power 98FM, and The Helping Hand. A fleet of Santas and Santarinas on Harley-Davidson bikes will line the street frontage of Mandarin Gallery, flagging off at 9.30 in the morning to help deliver hundreds of donated Christmas presents to the various aid societies.
