CHAIRMAN OF GOODRICH GLOBAL, MR CHAN CHONG BENG SHARES THE TRUE MEANING OF SINCERITY, HARD WORK AND SUCCESS.
"Victory is sweetest when you've known defeat", Publisher of Forbes Magazine, Malcolm Forbers' words perfectly describe the life of Mr Chan Chong Beng. Few people can recall a life of noteworthy experiences and even fewer take those experiences, positive or negative, in their stride as they carry on with life. Today, Mr Chan is the Chairman of Goodrich Global, Southeast Asia's leading supplier of interior wallcoverings and the journey till here has been enriching. A brush with the law, an unfinished university education and early financial problem; this success story too starts from modest beginnings, however, the storms it survives make it an extraordinary tale to tell.
MY HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Growing up in a kampong in Woodlands, Singapore, Mr Chan's childhood saw more than its fair amount of hardship. In a locality where uneducated individuals relied on farming for sustenance, it was his mother's foresight that first set him on the path to success. She enlisted him with an English School where a sound primary education would help him in his business relations. However, his education was short lived. Shortly after completing his National Service, Mr Chan joined a local university's School of Architecture only to drop out after the first eight months. Mr Chan explains the reasons, "One was because I wanted to start doing business as soon as I could. Another reason that prompted me to leave school was because of my family's financial situation".
