Since 2007, WIT has embraced startups with the WIT Start-up Pitch and since 2007 they’ve held the WIT Bootcamp, which aims to foster and mentor newcomers to the industry. Entrepreneurs and investors come together at the Bootcamp to meet at the intersection of travel and technology. Contestants in the Start-up Pitch compete to win a place to pitch the conference participants at the main conference. Past winners of the Start-up Pitch include Trippiece, BeMyGuest, Relux and Voyagin who’ve gone on to carve niches within the travel industry.
“Relux is growing quite fast and I believe that started since we won the start-up pitch at WIT 2013. It was one of the biggest breaking points of our company,” Takaya Shinozuka, co-founder of Relux.
