Strong Support for RadiologyAsia Accentuate Asia’s Medical Demands

SINGAPORE, 12 June 2015 – The strong turnout at the recently concluded RadiologyAsia, held at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO, underscored Asia’s escalating demands for high quality healthcare and sophisticated medical imaging equipment.

Conceptualised by SingEx Exhibitions and co-produced with the Singapore Radiological Society, RadiologyAsia is the first holistic event in Asia where the best clinical practices and latest technological advancement in the field of radiology was showcased to the region.

Local and International exhibitors were pleased to have a new platform to showcase their products in this part of the world where new advances in technology and medicine are coming closer to finding the right healthcare solutions to meet this growth in demand.

“It was a very good platform for us. This event can be a hub for Asia Pacific or South East Asia, a region that is sometimes difficult for us to reach effectively,” said Mr Sam Ku of Bayer Healthcare Radiology.

EIZO’s Manager, Medical Business Unit, Mr Lloyd Bowling added, “We are pleased to be a part of RadiologyAsia because it gave us the opportunity to engage with actual users of our products, and to have people look at our products. We could show them our latest technology, and how it can impact their processes as Radiologists.”

The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony for the Singapore Radiological Society (SRS) and College of Radiologists, Singapore (CRS) Lifetime Achievement Awards and Best Oral Presentation was also well attended by medical professionals from the Radiology community. The SRS/CRS Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Dr Chua Eu Jin, Dr Kho Kwang Mui and Prof Lenny Tan to recognise their contributions.

The inaugural event was held in conjunction with the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Singapore Radiological Society and College of Radiologists, Singapore, a high-level conference that featured 134 speakers and examined how radiology as a discipline has contributed significantly to a decline in cancer mortality.

“It was a very high quality meeting and the speakers were excellent. The major advantage was it was not just radiologists who attended, but also surgeons and oncologists. Having a mix of specialists is absolutely crucial for meetings these days, otherwise none of us radiologists will advance,” said Professor Ann King, Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology, Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong.

Delegates from US and Europe also saw the benefits of attending the show. Dr Thomas Hope, Assistant Professor in Residence in the Abdominal Imaging and Nuclear Medicine sections at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) said, “It was a fantastic conference, and I was very impressed by the number of speakers and also the international vibe. It was a great opportunity to see the diversity in how people approach imaging and the different solutions they have to problems that we also run into.”

Dr Mark Harrison, Consultant Oncologist, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, United Kingdom felt it was beneficial to see “both similarities and differences between radiology and oncology between Asia and Europe.”

RadiologyAsia attracted the support of key academic associations and societies including the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the College of Radiologists from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong; The Academy of Medicine of Malaysia; the Singapore Society of Oncology; Singapore Society of Radiographers; Society of Medical Physicists, Singapore; and the Korean Society of Radiology.

The next RadiologyAsia will be held in May 2017 in Singapore.
