Accor invites hospitality students to 'Take Off!' with new online competition to help their careers soar

Press Release   •   Aug 15, 2013 10:53 SGT

Accor Asia Pacific, the largest global hotel operator in the region, kicks off a competition for hospitality schools and hotel management university students throughout the region. Only the first 300 student teams to apply will qualify for the contest which will encourage them to focus on a real Accor case study: to Reinvent Novotel Hotels.

Participants must demonstrate creativity and boldness and come up with the best concept as they imagine the next generation of Novotel hotels in terms of products and services to match guest expectations for the year 2020.

The competition is organized in three rounds where students need to use their best photography and video editing skills, and the ability to convince both in writing and orally to obtain the highest opinion scores on the online voting site (www.accortakeoff.com). The final decision will then be made in front of a jury made up of Accor Asia Pacific senior regional executives.

On top of an incredible experience and exposure to Accor regional leaders, the winning team will win a fabulous five-day trip including travel, accommodation and excursions to one of the group’s hotels in either Seoul, Hong-Kong, Bali, Phuket or Bangkok.

Patrick Ollivier, SVP Human Resources Accor Asia Pacific, says: “Our objective is of course to increase exposure to Accor within the student community and identify great talents with a real passion for the hospitality industry, because our growth in the region is tremendous.

“We needed to widen our recruitment pool and have a stronger e-recruitment strategy and this competition is a great way to provide students with exposure to Accor while helping us identify talent in the industry,” he said.

“We have our Accorjobs online recruitment site, we are on LinkedIn and Facebook… now comes this 100% online competition. But this is also who we are: Innovation is Accor’s trademark and we constantly aim to open new frontiers in hospitality. This competition, which is a first in the Hotel Industry in Asia Pacific, is in line with that spirit of innovation.”

Graham Wilson, Accor Asia Pacific Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing is also very enthusiastic about the new initiative.

“It gives Accor Hotels the privileged opportunity to interact directly with students and listen to their suggestions in order to develop the future of our world-class brands,” he said.

“Today's students are our customers of tomorrow and I look forward to reviewing their innovative and surprising propositions. These types of projects are so important as they assist us to ensure we can anticipate our guests expectations and continue to re-engineer our brands for the future.”

The contest is run on annual basis by Accor but this year is particularly focused on the Asia Pacific region. The first competition was launched by the Accor Group in 2012 and saw a mixed team with contestants from Vietnam, Thailand & China amongst the finalists.
