Police have arrested a 37-year-old man who is believed to have outraged the modesty of an 11-year-old boy on 11 June 2011.

On 11 June 2011 at about 3.00 pm, officers from Central Police Division were conducting anti-crime patrols at a shopping mall along Tiong Bahru Road when they spotted a man entering a stairwell together with a boy.  This aroused the suspicion of the officers and they proceeded to conduct a check.  When the officers entered the stairwell, they discovered that the man was bare-bodied and that the boy was only clad in his underwear. The man tried to flee upon seeing the officers, but he was successfully detained.  A check on the suspect then recovered a tube of lubricant and four computer thumb drives from his possession.  The suspect was then placed under arrest and the items seized as case exhibits.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 13 June 2011 for an offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(2) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of five years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.

Commander of Central Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Tan Hung Hooi, commended his officers for their alertness and vigilance which led to the successful arrest of the suspect. AC Tan also advised parents to remind their young children not to follow strangers to secluded places, or allow others to touch them inappropriately, and to immediately inform their parents if something unusual happens.
