Dalian: The tenth issue of SinoShip goes live today with one of the best-known names in container shipping gracing the cover. Gerry Wang, the ceo and co-founder of Seaspan Corporation, speaks frankly about the box sector, where it is going wrong and how structural problems can be fixed.
Wang told SinoShip that the container industry is now in the process of copying what the airline industry has done in terms of alliances, and this was the best way to solve inherent profitability issues.
The Vancouver-based executive also outlined plans to buy more ships, especially larger boxships than the 14,000 teu vessels it has already ordered.
“This industry is simple – if you don't grow you will be left behind,” he said.
Elsewhere in the magazine, readers can catch up about China’s shale gas revolution, the thoughts of the chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, as well as our annual crewing poll and a feature on the troubled ship recycling sector plus all our regular departments.
The magazine, which will be distributed at Posidonia in Athens, is available to read online free of charge here.
Dual-language SinoShip magazine launched in early 2012 as the global platform for Chinese shipping. As well as the quarterly glossy magazine, there is a daily news service with 12 correspondents in six cities. The magazine is distributed to all the leading shipowners and shipyards in Greater China plus a global distribution of more than 3,000 copies.
