Press Release   •   Nov 04, 2011 18:43 +08

Once again the Historic vessel Vega will be the press boat for the prestigious Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta is a challenging offshore sailing race organised every year by the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in association with the RORC. It consists of three overnight passage races, some 240 miles in total, plus three days of harbour racing in Penang and Langkawi. With regatta dinners almost every night, a trishaw race and lots of opportunities to socialise, onshore activities are just as demanding as the sailing.
The event attracts a large variety of yachts, from top class IRC1 racers to slow classic cruisers dating back over 100 years, all of whom had to cope with unpredictable weather and changing tactics during the 9 day mix of races past tropical islands.

The all volunteer crew on Vega offer our services to meet new friends and spread the word about our humanitarian work with isolated island communities in South East Asia.

Built at Olve, Norway in 1893-94, for over 100 years VEGA carried cargos of bricks, building stone, pig iron, and cement through some of the world’s roughest seas. Built for the North Sea and certified for Arctic trade, VEGA was famous for her strength and ability to carry loads other boats her size could not. Baltic traders like VEGA made some very impressive voyages including immigrants to North America and cargos to the Mediterranean, Africa and the Caribbean, some rounding Cape Horn to trade with Chile.
