The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil Contract 1688 (C1688) for the construction of Tuas Station of the Tuas West Extension to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd at a contract sum of S$190 million.
Scope of Contract
C1688 comprises the construction of an elevated station at Tuas Road and approximately 2.8km of elevated MRT viaducts. Please refer to Annex A for the locality map of Tuas Station.
Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd is a major civil engineering contractor from China, involved in the construction of Circle Line, and presently, Downtown Line Stages 1 and 2.
Construction will start by the end of this year and is targeted to complete in 2016.
About Tuas West Extension
Tuas West Extension is an extension of the East-West Line from Joo Koon station, consisting of a 7.5km long twin tracked MRT viaduct, four aboveground stations and a depot. The MRT viaduct is also integrated with a road viaduct along Pioneer Road. Please refer to Annex B for the Tuas West Extension alignment.
The stations - Tuas, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West and Tuas Link - will improve the MRT connectivity in the Tuas area. With the Tuas West Extension, commuters working in the Jurong and Tuas industrial estates will enjoy significantly better public transport connectivity and enhanced accessibility. Commuters to the Tuas area can also look forward to savings in travelling time by up to 35 minutes.
