McDonald’s Singapore today announced the appointment of Ms Randy Lai, 38, as its new Managing Director. Randy was earlier based in Hong Kong where she was Vice President of McDonald’s Hong Kong. She has relocated to Singapore and will be responsible for the overall strategic business growth and development of McDonald’s footprint in Singapore.

Randy’s appointment marks the first female Managing Director for Singapore and she succeeds Mr Alex Yeo, who is joining McDonald’s China leadership team as Vice President of Restaurant Solutions Group to manage the support systems and operations excellence of one of the fastest growing McDonald’s markets in Asia. Under Alex’s three-year leadership first as General Manager then Managing Director, McDonald’s Singapore enjoyed continuous double-digit comparable sales and customer transaction growth despite the onslaught of the global economic downturn, and also won the Hewitt’s Best Employer Award (Singapore & Asia) in 2009. Both Randy and Alex assume their new duties with effect from 1 October 2010.

Randy brings with her 12 years of experience in the McDonald’s business where she started out as a marketing executive in McDonald’s China. She moved up the ranks to helm the marketing department of McDonald’s Hong Kong in 2005. Over the years, she had developed many successful strategies including the launch of 24-hour restaurants and McCafé for the Hong Kong market. She was a major contributor towards the sterling business results and operations excellence of McDonald’s Hong Kong – a market with over 200 McDonald’s restaurants – over the past years.

“Like Singapore, Hong Kong is a fast-moving and competitive market. We are similar yet also different when it comes to customer tastes, lifestyles and interests. I am definitely looking forward to my new role and sharing the best of my experiences and passion to drive even greater customer satisfaction and business growth in Singapore together with my local leadership team," said Randy Lai, Managing Director, McDonald’s Singapore.

Prior to joining McDonald’s, Randy held a number of key marketing positions in other multi-national companies. Randy holds an Executive MBA Degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, majoring in Economics, from The University of Western Ontario, Canada.
