Ten McDonald’s restaurant managers and employees begin their journey to achieve their university dreams today as McDonald’s launches what is possibly the Food and Beverage (F&B) industry’s first university degree scholarship programme. This programme is a significant milestone for McDonald’s University Accredited Programme (UAP) as it enters its sixth year in Singapore. Prior to this, the UAP offered diploma programmes that were accredited by universities.
These 10 aspiring achievers will be undergoing a 21-month intensive programme specialising in Food and Beverage management by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. The course comprises a 9-month advance Diploma Programme specialising in Food & Beverage management and a 12-month Degree Programme in Business Management. Upon graduation, students will receive a bachelor degree in Business and Management with Honours. Classes are held in Singapore at the East Asia Institute of Management. McDonald’s has invested over $200,000 for the programme.

The inaugural launch of this degree scholarship programme gives our people a second chance at fulfilling their university dreams, and is much aligned with the emphasis our founder Ray Kroc placed on education when he first started the Hamburger University in 1961. It’s our way of saying we truly value our people and their future at McDonald’s."
McDonald’s UAP degree scholarship programme is open to all restaurant managers with diploma qualifications and who have served in their positions for at least two years. Operation consultants who have diploma qualifications from various departments are also eligible. The 10 employees selected comprised of eight restaurant managers and two operation consultants. They were selected based on their work performance, leadership competencies and desire to learn and achieve the university degree. McDonald’s sponsors 100% of the course fees for these selected employees and is committed to this programme for the long term.
McDonald’s UAP was launched in Singapore in 2004 and about 450 employees have taken the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications. UAP, aligned with the nationally-recognised Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) framework, is specially designed to complement McDonald’s in-house training curriculum.
