Registry of Marriage and Registry of Muslim Marriages to resume operations at Canning Rise in June 2011

The Registry of Marriages (ROM) & Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) will resume operations at its newly renovated building at Canning Rise with effect from 14 June 2011. ROM and ROMM have been operating at a temporary office in the Ministry of National Development (MND) Building since 26 Jan 2010 while the building at Canning Rise underwent renovations to better serve the public.

To facilitate the shift back to Canning Rise, ROM and ROMM will be closed from Saturday 11 June 2011 to Monday 13 June 2011. During this period, members of the public can continue to call the ROM and ROMM main lines for assistance and enquiries. All online services will continue to be available.

The ROM and ROMM will resume all services at the Registries of Marriages Building from 14 June 2011.

The renovated building at Canning Rise brings together the Registry of Civil Marriages and the Registry of Muslim Marriages with one common customer service front , presenting visitors with a warm and welcoming environment.

Details of the Enhancements to the Renovated Building

Couples arriving by car can alight under shelter at the entrance plaza and be greeted by a reception within the spacious service area. All public services are conveniently located on the ground floor. The upgraded building also boasts an open and green concept, taking advantage of the natural lighting through its modern glass features and eco-friendly sun-pipes. Wedding couples can capture their memorable occasion in the two refurbished solemnization rooms which open out into the landscaped garden. Adding to the ambience, the external grounds have been landscaped to create a lush green environment that blends with the surrounding picturesque Fort Canning Park, reinforcing the “Wedding in the Park” concept.

The upgraded premise will also house Marriage Central’s third resource point which provides marriage-related resources, information and programmes for soon-to-wed and married couples, with the aim to strengthen all marriages.

Members of the public who drive can park their cars at the ROM Building. Bus Services available are: 2, 12, 32, 33, 51, 61, 63, 80, 147, 190, 197 (Hill Street). The nearest MRT Stations are City Hall and Dhoby Ghaut.

Marriage Central is a one-stop resource point under the National Family Council to promote strong, healthy and happy relationships. Strongly supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Marriage Central provides resources and referrals via various platforms, including its website and physical resource points to help strengthen marriages. To keep marriages in Singapore resilient and strong, Marriage Central has put in place strategies to provide couples with easy access by working closely with community partners to provide marriage education programmes. 2 physical resource points are set up in partnership with National Library Board Singapore (NLB) at the Jurong Regional Library (8 December 2009) and Woodlands Regional Library (9 December 2010). The third upcoming resource point at ROM (14 June 2011) seeks to raise awareness of marriage-related information, resources and programmes, especially among soon-to-weds to prepare them for a healthy and enriching marriage ahead.
