The banking brands and brand value are stronger by over 25% in ASIA as per Brand Finance Top 500 Financial Brands Ranking 2013

The Financial Industry is finally turning around if one was to see the strong and growing brand value as a measure of their future success. The Banks in Asia have done remarkably well with a brand value growth of 26% over last year, way above the Global average of 16%. There is room for improvement however as the Market Cap of the banks globally increased by 37% against Asian increase of 25%.

 The US bank, Wells Fargo is ranked at number one in the The Banker / BrandFinance® Banking 500, whilst last year’s top brand, HSBC fell down to third There are 7 BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) based banks in the top 20. For the second year running, they out number European
banks.

Overall, only the European banks are struggling to emerge from the economic uncertainty of the past four years and the ongoing troubles of the Eurozone hinder any progress.

Of the global 500, there are  a startling number of 132 banks (24%) from Asia and 27 banks are from the ASEAN region.

While the Asia ranking is lead by ICBC from China with a brand value of US$ 19.82 bn, the ASEAN ranking is led by DBS with a brand value of US$ 3.47 bn. DBS is also ranked as the # 1 bank in Singapore.

CIMB retains the title of the strongest rated Asian brand and the only bank in Asia with a "AAA-" rating.
