Singapore, 22 October 2012Experience a different kind of Christmas this year in Marine Parade Central. For the first time ever, Marine Parade will host a heartland Christmas light-up celebration entitled “Christmas ‘round the Corner”. The event which is aimed at bringing communities and families together to celebrate this joyous season will run from 30 November 2012 to 6 January 2013.

A community project led by Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC) and co-organized by the Marine Parade Merchants’ Association (MPMA), Christmas ‘round the Corner will present an iconic novel Christmas experience this year in the city’s prominent heartland, Marine Parade Central.

Centering on the theme of silver and blue, the area will be replete with decorations with a focus on the motif of snowflakes to present a sleek and modern Christmas for the district. Streets will be adorned with zigzagged twinkling lights, while buzzing roads along Marine Parade and Marine Parade Central will be decked out in regal Christmas decorations.  A dazzling 30-foot Christmas tree will adorn the celebrations in addition to the newly renovated Marine Parade hawker centre which will also be decked out in Christmas holly wreaths.

Adding to the festive atmosphere is a Christmas village bazaar with many festive offerings such as chocolates, candies, charity booths and even free instant prints at a specially customised Christmas photo wall. Christmas mascots will be giving out sweets and candies to spread the festive cheer while roving carollers will belt out captivating Christmas tunes. Shoppers can also take advantage of the many great Christmas discounts offered by the Marine Parade merchants only available during this festive season.

This is the first-ever large-scale Christmas celebration that Marine Parade has ever hosted. Main organiser, FCBC hopes to create a celebratory Christmas atmosphere and present an iconic event in Marine Parade for all to enjoy. “Faith Community Baptist Church is a community church and this as an excellent opportunity for us to connect and share the spirit of Christmas with the Marine Parade residents and community. We are staging this event with the Marine Parade Merchants’ Association to bring families and communities together through an iconic Christmas light-up celebration. This is our way of giving back to the community,” said Reverend Lawrence Khong, Senior Pastor of FCBC.

The event which is supported by the Marine Parade Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC), Marine Parade Community Club Management Committee (CCMC), Marine Parade Town Council and Housing Development Board (HDB) will also see strong grassroots support in the outreach to the residents and merchants of the Marine Parade. “This event helps to bring the Christmas atmosphere to Marine Parade Central where residents, merchants and the community at large can busk in the festive celebrations. On top of connecting communities, it also helps to drive footfall from other parts of Singapore to Marine Parade where the increased traffic will benefit our merchants and help make Marine Parade an even livelier town that it already is,” said Mr Tan Ai Koong, Chairman of Marine Parade Merchants’ Association.
