Two Snatch Thieves Nabbed

Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 20, believed to have involved in a case of snatch theft at Yishun Avenue 7.

On 3 June 2011 at about 6.30 am, a 34-year-old man was engrossed with his mobile phone at the ground floor of Blk 289 Yishun Avenue 7. Suddenly, an unknown man came from his rear and snatched away his mobile phone. The suspect ran towards a waiting motorcycle ridden by another man and both men fled the scene.

Upon receiving information on the case, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division immediately commenced investigations and ground enquiries. Their efforts paid off when the identity of one of the suspects was established. On 20 June 2011 at about 10.00 am , the first suspect was arrested at his residence along Toa Payoh Lorong 1. Following the arrest, the second suspect was arrested shortly after in the vicinity of Toa Payoh Lorong 2. Police managed to recover the motorcycle, belonging to one of the suspects, used in the commission of the offence.  

The suspects will be charged in Court on 22 June 2011 for Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 7 years’ imprisonment and caning.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their perseverance and meticulous investigation which led to the successful arrests. He added that Police will spare no efforts to track down those inclined to such crimes and ensure that they are brought to justice.
