Emeritus Senior Minister attends Dinner with Children from Low Income Families at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will dine with 116 students from low income families at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy on 28 May 2015, Thursday.

The students will not just receive financial assistance but more importantly, a measure of hope that they will be able to pursue a more holistic education. The financial assistance given to the disadvantaged students and youths in the Marine Parade community is made possible with a program titled: “Children are Our Hope for the Future 2015”.

A grand total of over $157,800 was raised during a fund-raising Car Wash on 15th May 2015 including a $60,000 top up from Roxy Pacific Holdings Limited. 105 cars were washed during the one-day event. All the funds were contributed to the recently launched Roxy Foundation by Roxy-Pacific Holdings Limited. The Charity Dinner on 28 May is the culmination of the fundraising drive where the raised funds are distributed in various forms to give children in deprived circumstances a chance to improve their academic performance.

“For 8 years, disadvantaged children have been the focus of our community engagement programs. Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy’s continued support of those kids comes from our strong belief that a child’s education should not be impeded because of difficult financial circumstances at home,’ said Mr Klaus Gottschalk, General Manager of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy.

116 students living in the nearby community will each receive $300 from the money raised. Students from low income families studying in Haig Girls’ School, CHIJ Katong, Ngee Ann Primary School, Tao Nan Primary School & Tanjong Katong Secondary School were identified through their schools.

A further 15 students from Nanyang Polytechnic will receive a $1,000 Roxy Foundation Grant to pay part of their school fees. These 15 students will receive their grants from Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Children are Our Hope for the Future 2015 also aims to celebrate family joy and togetherness. The Charity Dinner brings 116 students and their families together to celebrate simple joys in life over a dinner – a highlight for all participants. This annual community engagement program is organized by Roxy Pacific Holdings Limited, Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy, Marine Parade Citizens Consultative Committee and co-organised by Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen, Ibis Singapore Novena and Accor Asia Pacific Singapore.
