Press release -

More than 1,000 Employees from AccorHotels raise more than $16,000 for Central Singapore CDC’s Silver Community

Christmas came early for 283 low-income seniors living in the Central Singapore District. As part of AccorHotels Singapore’s 8th year of community engagement and annual collaboration with Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), the seniors were treated to a sumptuous lunch at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, and received red packets in celebration of the festive season on 8 December 2015.

Continuing in this do-good spirit, staff from the hotels once again came together to raise more than $16, 000 in the last 4 months through activities such as fund-raising activities amongst employees and table sales with vendors. This amount will go towards supporting the CDC’s Silver Outings programme for immobile seniors living in the Central Singapore District. The programme is a pilot initiative to provide these seniors with an opportunity for social interaction through outings to local places of interest, with the help of volunteer groups. With the support of AccorHotels Singapore, the CDC will be looking to scale up the programme in the coming year.

Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and Guest-of-Honour at the event, said, “One of the key roles of the CDC is to bring stakeholders from the corporate and community sectors together to meet existing needs and social gaps on the ground. It is through the support of our partners such as AccorHotels that the CDC is able to address potential issues such as social isolation among our immobile seniors. I am very encouraged to see the effort that staff from AccorHotels have put in to support our Silver community. I hope that more companies will partner us in doing good, so that we can build a better district and country as one collective community.”

Added Mr Patrick Ollivier, Chief Human Resources Officer of AccorHotels Asia Pacific, “We are privileged to be able to spread festive cheer and spend time with the seniors from the Silver Outing Programme. AccorHotels bands together globally every year to celebrate a week of giving back to the communities in which we operate. AccorHotels is a leading global hotel operator with a network of more than 3,800 hotels in 92 countries, including over 650 hotels across Asia Pacific. The group places strong emphasis on our community and environmental programmes through Planet 21. While Solidarity Week celebrates its 10th year of giving back globally, in Singapore the 8-year-old initiative underlines our commitment to encourage sustained community and corporate giving.”
