Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore Treats Sixty Seniors to A Day Out In Town As Part of Its Chinese New Year CelebrationsJan 31, 2012 16:49 SGT
It was a special day for 60 senior citizens from the Kreta Ayer Foundation as they were treated to an event in town as part of Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore’s (APBS) celebrations for the Year of the Dragon. Titled “Grannies Day Out”, the event brought a twist to celebrating the Lunar New Year for these elderly folk who had supported APB Singapore’s “Cookies for Charity” drive in recent weeks.
To thank the seniors, APBS brought them to Shaw Theatres Lido at Orchard Road for a special movie screening of a Chinese film titled “Legendary Amazons” at 10.30am. The movie screening was followed by a sumptuous six-course lunch at East Ocean Teochew Restaurant at Shaw Centre. APBS staff was on hand to serve as chaperones to the elderly and provide the personal touch to make it an outing to remember.
The elderly folk helped with the packing of 3,000 boxes of “Tiger Fortune Cookies” which were sold in the lead up to the new lunar year at the Chinatown Pavilion at Banda Street. Proceeds from the initiative supports the Meal and Grocery Programme created by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Constituency to ensure that the needy elderly living there are able to eat regular and nutritious meals.
“Heading out to the cinema is not something the needy elderly living in Kreta Ayer have been able to enjoy. In the spirit of fostering “togetherness” during the on-going Chinese New Year celebrations, we are delighted that a simple activity like this really brought the festive cheer alive. The excitement, smiles and laughter shared by the seniors throughout the outing today has certainly warmed our hearts”, said Alina Boey, Head of Corporate Communications, APBS.
