CLARKE QUAY GETS CREATIVE

Embark on a new experience at Clarke Quay this August. Clarke Quay, in collaboration with Social Creatives adds colors through creative art painting on the iconic façade of Whampoa Ice House located adjacent to the G-MAX Reverse Bungy Kiosk.

Through this pilot exercise, Clarke Quay aims to promote public arts appreciation via the wall mural. The creative wall mural designed by Kala Roseane from Social Creatives enlivens the vibrancy of the area and celebrates the heritage of Clarke Quay through the iconic feature of Sir Andrew Clarke, Samsui woman and Tongkangs from our bygone era. (Refer to Annex 1 for the inspiration behind the wall mural)

“We are very excited and proud of this creative collaboration. The creative art mural definitely adds vibrancy to the conservation area and gives an artful interpretation of Clarke Quay history. We hope this is a first of more to come and is something that can be appreciated by both locals and tourists alike,” said Mr Ong Kee Leng, Centre Manager, Clarke Quay.

Faris Basharahil, the Chief Executive of Social Creatives, who curated the creative wall mural said, “This project started through the friendship between Social Creatives and the management of Clarke Quay. We are glad that this project coincides with our 5th Year Anniversary. The artwork is a funky depiction of almost forgotten stories while giving a vibrant spin to communal street art. Mural painting is actually the first form of art originating from cave-drawings. There are many stories in the artwork such as Andrew Clarke and Vanda Joaquim. Indeed, the colours further promote our ART in e"ART"h objectives where art becomes a powerful force that binds people and stories together.  We look forward to curate and create more masterpieces at different hubs and welcome potential collaborators or commissioned works.”

The wall mural is scheduled to be completed by 8 August 2013. Interested members of the public can catch all the action live from 11am to 7pm from 29th July till 8 August 2013 at Whampoa Ice House façade facing River Valley Road, Block E, Clarke Quay.
