CLARKE QUAY SUNDAY PLAYDATES 2018: BEST CHILDREN-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS BY THE RIVER, GAMES & MORE

SINGAPORE, MARCH 2018 – Sunday Playdates returns with new family (and wallet) friendly restaurants that offer kid’s menus for the ideal weekend brunch at Clarke Quay. There will also never be a dull moment with fun games to keep them entertained all afternoon.

FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Mark your calendars for the first Sunday of every month as the Quay turns the Fountain Square into a children’s carnival. From 12pm to 5pm, the activities are free for play with inflatable castles and slides that are suitable for all ages. Engage in a friendly exchange at the sports game stands, or pit your skills at some of the old-school carnival booths. With a different theme every month, be sure to return for your monthly dose of fun.

If your littlies are looking for some thrill then head over to the Adventure Hub (next to Fremantle Seafood Market) where kids can bounce around on the trampolines (operator charges apply).

Hot Stones

No more having to pinch fries from daddy’s plate or share mummy’s main course because one kid dines for free with every two paying adults on Sundays* at selected restaurants! Choose from the Surf & Turf menu at Fremantle Seafood Market or cook your own steak on serpentine volcanic stone slabs at Hot Stones. Or for an authentic Thai lunch with an urban twist, try the Tom Yum Lobster Bisque or Aroy Mak Tasting Platter at Talay Thai.

FOR KID’S MENU & FAMILY FEASTS

Kushikatsu Tanaka

Enter Kushikatsu Tanaka and be greeted by the high energy of the servers. This Japanese chain with more than 160 outlets from Osaka opened its first outlet in Singapore at Clarke Quay. Famous for their assorted deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables, they are also well-known for their DIY dishes such as the Potato Salad, Takoyaki and Chititori Hot Pan. Kids can enjoy a free soft drink* if they win in a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with the staffs. Kid’s meal is also available at $5++ for kids below the age of 7.

Wings Bar

Take dining to new heights at Wings Bar, an aviator-themed concept with a hangar above the runway floor. The crew members are donned in jumpsuits to mimic aircraft service personnel, and the restaurant whips up their best-selling Barbecue Ribs with Bourbon Glaze and Buffalo Wings. They open on the first Sunday of every month for lunch with a special kid’s menu of Nuggets with Sides, Baby Cheese Burger, Ice-cream Sundaes, and other desserts. Conveniently facing the Fountain Square, adults can easily keep an eye out as the children play at the games.

Sports screening is also available for selected matches, making it the perfect spot for when the whole family is here for Sunday Playdates.

Privé Clarke Quay

Alternatively, Privé Clarke Quay (also situated next the carnival play area) offers a weekend all-day breakfast selection, and a list of bubbly and wines for those who desire a fancier brunch.

Bayang

Feel like you’re on a vacation in Bali with resort-eqsue interior featuring inlays inspired by traditional wayang or shadow puppets, Indonesian favourites and grilled meat and seafood at Bayang. The casual dining restaurant is known for their Satay Campur (marinated minced meat or fish grilled on lemongrass sticks), Beef Rendang and Ayam or Ikan Penyet. If the dishes are a tad too spicy for children, then ask for the kid’s menu. It comes with a choice of main course like Fried Noodles or Fried Rice, beverage and dessert for $11++ which the kids will surely approve. 

Xiangtianxia Hot Pot

The best way however to have a little bit of everything and satisfy everyone’s cravings is through hot pot, and no better place than at Spice World Hot Pot from Chengdu.

Fun Fact: they have more than 500 outlets worldwide, and Clarke Quay is the first in Singapore. Have it the way you like hot pot by choosing up to three soup bases (such as Tomato, Wild Mushroom, and the signature Szechuan Ma La), sample different cuts from the Mini Nine Platter or order the Premium Barbie Wagyu Beef.

Long Jiang Classic Noodle & Congee House 

Seafood lovers can rejoice as Long Jiang Classic Noodle & Congee House serves premium seafood porridge and noodles at affordable prices, curated by Chef Francis Chong 張偉忠, President of Society of Chinese Cuisine Chefs (新加坡中厨协会). It’s a real treat for any family occasion as the Signature Ocean Treasures Porridge and Braised Cheesy Lobster Bee Hoon come in plush pots, which are perfect for sharing for three to four people. Also on the menu are other well-loved local dishes such as Fried Hokkien Noodles, KL Soya Sauce Chicken, and wok-fried staples.
