How to Choose the Perfect Floor for your Kids’ Room

Practical and Easy to Maintain
We can keep our fingers crossed, but the reality is that there will be times (more often than not!) when your children’s room will look as though a tornado has just passed through: toys strewn about the floor, liquid spills, food crumbs, your kid deciding the floor would make a good paint canvas… parents know that these scenarios are all (unfortunately) possible. Pick a floor that can handle anything your child throws at it (literally!) and look for options that are easy to clean, anti-static and scratch-proof.

Look for Multi-Functional Furnishings
Also keep in mind that the room won’t remain a playroom forever. As your kids grow, they will become more vocal about how they want their rooms to look and function. That tiny bed that looks like a toy car may be cute, but your child will outgrow that soon. Consider interior designs that can endure different age groups, and furniture and flooring that is durable.

Safety First
LURF Balance - Drift Oak LightChild-proof, child-proof, child-proof – that’s the mantra of parents with babies and toddlers who don’t want to have to keep huge supplies of plasters and bandages in their storerooms. Keep window treatments as simple as possible i.e. shorter curtains or blinds are a good choice as they are safer and lessen the likelihood of a budding Tarzan swinging from them; long draperies should be avoided.

Make sure your floor is strong enough for lasting durability, while at the same time cushioned enough to make tumbles less painful. At the same time, you can lessen the risks of your children falling sick by using flooring with anti-bacterial properties.

While ceramic tiles can be relatively easy to clean, their hardness can cause bad bruises when your kids fall during play. Carpet is a softer option, but it’s not ideal for managing stains. Moreover, carpets are dust-trappers - a definite no-go if your child has allergies.

All-Rounded Flooring Solutions
Laminate flooring is generally a durable option. In particular, laminate floors manufactured by Quick-Step (made in Belgium) have an extra protective Scratch Guard top layer that’s 10x more scratch-resistant than flooring without this advanced technology. Its high quality High Density Fibre (HDF) core board also has excellent Impact Resistance. In addition, their laminate flooring is water resistant; they even carry a laminate product range called Impressive that’s 100% waterproof thanks to its special HydroSeal coating technology.

Another option to consider is Luxurious Resilient Flooring (LURF),also known as vinyl. Because their main material is 100% virgin rubber, resilient flooring is softer and makes walking on them more comfortable and quieter. Resilient floorings from Quick-Step are 100% waterproof, and also have an additional revolutionary sealed top layer with Scratch Guard and Stain Guard technology - making them very durable against scratches, scuff marks and even stains.

Quick-Step floors are incredibly easy to maintain and clean. Their flooring’s surface is completely sealed, so bacteria, dirt and spillages cannot penetrate the floor.

Another LURF flooring brand, Grandeur, has a specialNanoSilver coating which inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi, helps prevent the spread of germs (99.9% bacteria-free), and eradicates odours – making maintenance easier and ensuring a cleaner, healthier and fresher environment for you and your family.
