Simplicity reigns supreme for Minimalism interiors

Minimalism is a trend that has managed to maintain its popularity in interior design for many years. And it’s unsurprising. Embracing the motto “less is more”, minimalist interiors are stripped down to the bare minimum of components in an attempt to avoid the chaotic look that having a lot of stuff often creates. This is the premise that Minimalism was born out of, as a symbol of a more refined style of living.

Japanese Zen
Peace, space, serenity and an eye for detail all typify Minimalism. The key word here is simplicity, and for many Japanese, this is an almost religious goal. The emphasis here is on the essential and does away with everything superfluous. Space exude calm and draw your attention only to the few objects that were put there to make a statement.

Pure and Light
Minimalism is also synonymous of a modern interior which emanates serenity and peace but also remains exciting by playing with different contrasts. Light, plenty of space, the use of neutral colours and a mix of styles all rule in a minimalist look. Natural materials such as marble, linen, wood and even steel and glass are also typical of this style of décor – making Minimalism a pure design philosophy. Combine these materials for more breathing space and create a natural balance in your home.

Glorious Simplicity
Colours used in Minimalist home décor are pure in their simplicity. They are often monochrome: shades of white, grey, anthracite (dark greyish) and black form the perfect backdrop to a minimalist interior. And it’s not just for walls; the floor can be the perfect canvas for this décor too.

One problem with Minimalism though is that it can come across as being cold and impersonal. To keep your interior from getting too clinical, a warm wood look or wood accents on floors will keep things cosy. Colourful accessories and soft pastels provide a playful accent. The result? More freedom, calm and space for creativity… and that’s a great thing to come home to!
