Material
Wool is a naturally hardwearing, dirt-repellant material that’s still a top choice – acrylic ones have a similar look and feel, plus, resist static and are more affordable.

Colours
A rug can dramatically change the look of a room, so pick according to the effect you desire – warm, earthy tones can immediately warm up even a cool stone floor.

Pattern
If you find a design you really love, why not make it the starting point for the whole room? Pick up on its colours in your furniture or fabrics, or go the whole hog with a theme.

Getting started:

-          How much traffic does this room get?
Nylon carpet is especially durable for high-traffic areas like corridors or your front entrance.

-          The denser the weave of your carpet, the better it will keep its texture and not flatten out.

-          Loop pile is generally more resistant than cut pile.

-          Does your room get direct sunlight? Wool and Olefin are the most fade-resistant materials.

-          If you have special considerations, be sure to let the salesperson know. Rugs that are treated for non-shedding, stain-resistant, or even water resistance are possible to find.
