A special theme will provide both the focus and inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows. To get ideas for a great theme, start looking through your child’s favourite books, magazines, decorating books, and even get ideas online.

When picking the perfect theme for your children, there are several things to look into:

- Do you want it to be gender-specific, or do you want it to be neutral? Neutral themes cater to both girls and boys and are usually perfect if your son and daughter share the same room.
- The theme must be age-appropriate. The appropriate décor for an infant may not be appropriate for a five year-old, so do take age into serious consideration.
- To remedy the issue of age, choose timeless themes and neutral themes that have the potential to grow with your child. However, if you don’t mind redecorating every few years as your child grows up, by all means pick something that reflects the age they are in.

Practical Tips:

A good rule to follow for a themed, coordinated room is to repeat each colour, fabric, and print, if possible, in at least three places around the room to tie everything together.
